Many different things have happened since
the last time I discussed Trump’s executive order on the travel ban. After the
9th circuit court halted the executive order, President Trump took
it upon himself and wrote up a revised a new executive order on travel ban this
time in hopes of avoiding the anger and protests that have been sweeping across
the nation after his first executive order. Even though Donald Trump did the
things in this new order to appease the left, his new order was still blocked
by a Judge from Hawaii. This has been a wild ride and it has show up two
competing narratives by the people in the media.
An article from CNN titled “Trump’s new travel ban blocked: What you
need to know” show us some perspective on this issue. CNN would tent to be
more liberal media source and sometimes gets into beef with President Trump. However,
this article tends to keep it in the middle and delivers us some reasons as to
why the executive order was blocked citing that it was the intent of the Trump
administration wanting to ban all Muslims from entering our country that
violated the Constitution’s establishment clause. They also point back to the
early campaign when Donald Trump called for a complete shutdown of Muslims
entering our country until the could figure out what was going on. They even
point out to what Trump was saying after he found out about the new ban. Trump
called the decision as an “unprecedented judicial overreach” and said that he
move made our country look weak. He also vowed to take the case to the Supreme
Court if needed.
We get another side of the spectrum from
Breitbart.com, who composed an article titled “Dershowitz: Courts Psychoanalyzing Trump – If Obama Issued Travel Ban,
It Would Be Constitutional,” based on an interview on Fox New Channel “Fox
& Friends.” In the interview we have a Harvard Law professor Alan
Dershowitz who said that if it were Obama who issued the travel ban it would be
considered Constitutional. The article is written completely based of what this
Alan Dershowitz said during his interview and basically highlight the important
things he said during the interview. Fox News/Breitbart strategy is to have a
distinguished person come on and tell you want they think and why they are
right based off their credentials. Breitbart is using a different way of
telling the news because this article is more right versus wrong than the CNN
article which basically just lets everyone know what is going on instead.
Many things have changed since last
Travel ban. The fact that Trump revised the original executive order and it
still got blocked shows that this order is going to be hard to pass. President
Trump plans on appealing this court order and this will most likely end up in
the Supreme Court. Things will be different this time in the Supreme Court now
that Associate Justice Neil Gorsuch was just sworn in. Now there is a conservative
majority in the Supreme Court and this maybe enough for the President to
finally get what he wants in his travel ban executive order. We will just have
to wait and see.
